Stoptech's new Competition Brake Kit uses the C43 caliper with a 309x32mm 2-piece rotor and was designed for lightweight sports cars such as the S2000, Miata, and FRS/BRZ.
The C43 caliper is based on the STR trophy caliper, but takes weight savings to a new level with additional analysis and material removal, and comes in at around 4.5lbs. For comparison, the STR43 is about a pound heavier and a standard ST40 weighs around twice as much. Pad shape is DR21, which is common, inexpensive, and 20mm thick, providing more friction material and a longer lasting pad than the ST40. Being a motorsports product, these calipers do not have dust seals, which tend to melt when used on a race track. Because of this, the calipers should be rebuilt on a fairly regular basis and are not recommended for street driving, especially in climates with winter weather. For the S2000, 36/42mm differential bore pistons are used to create even pad wear and maintain stock brake bias.
In addition to inexpensive replacement pads, the rotors use a non-directional pillar vane design, so separate left and right rings are not required and cost under $140 each to replace, which is much less than some comparable brake kits. So while this kit is more expensive than an ST40 kit, it makes up for it at the first pad and rotor replacement.
Two versions of this kit are available: "sport" and "race."
Sport kit includes Stoptech sport pads, compound 309, and the rotor hardware uses belleville washer springs to reduce noise.
Race kit comes with Stoptech SR33 race pads and fully floating rotors.
Both kits include stainless steel braided brake lines.
