Soft suspension bushings flex under load and result in inconsistant alignment settings, which reduces grip and can give a wandering, inprecise feel. Replacing suspension bushings with harder versions is one of the most significant improvements that can be made to a car's suspension.
With this kit, we have combined what we consider the basic essential suspension bushings. First, a Whiteline "sport" hardness Anti-Lift Kit. This part replaces the large bushing at the rear of the frount control arm with a much stiffer version. In addition to the stiffer bushing, we get added positive caster and a change to the anti-geometry. All together, this results in more front end grip and better response. This kit is the single most effective bushing change in the whole car and is one of the first things we recommend for any older Subaru.
At the rear, we like the Turn in Concepts bushings. They are made of a very hard graphite-impregnated polyurethane to minimize flex while increasing durability and preventing squeaks and binding. They use machned stainless steel crush tubes which rotate more smoothly and prevent corrosion.
This kit includes the ALK, TIC lateral link bushings, and the rear trailing arm bushing. These are all fairly easy to install and very effective.
Not included are the front inner control arm bushings or the front trailing arm bushing. These two parts can be added, but add to installation time and can slightly hinder smooth suspension articulation. At the rear end, the traliing arm will actually need to move in and out laterally at the rear during suspension travel, so it is useful to have some compliance left in the system. We have left these extra bushings optional, as well as the Kartboy Subframe lock bolts.
The subframe lock bolts fit in the rear crossmember and attach it firmly to the chassis. We almost always recommend installing a set. They are optional because some STI subframes are already solidly mounted, and on those models these are not necessary. Plus they are popular so many Subarus already have a set installed.
