Stock Subaru fuel pumps can hardly handle more power than stock, even with the stock injectors and turbo, so a larger fuel pump is a key component to making more power,, or for e85/flex fuel tuning. When the 2005 Legacy and 2008 Impreza came out, we all quickly realized the common 255lph pump upgrade was no longer a direct fit. In those early days, a lot of fuel pump assemblies were hacked up to make the pumps fit, and not always successfully.
Thankfully, Deatschworks has developed a series of higher flow, direct drop in fuel pumps for cars with more modern fuel pump assemblies.
The DW65c pump is rated at 265lph. However, it is important to note that flow rate decreases with pressure, which is an important consideration with a turbocharged car. Base fuel pressure is generally 43.5 psi, and so at 20psi of boost the fuel pump is actually operating at 63.5 psi, a bit higher than the rated pressure. Fuel flow also depends on the voltage at the pump. The stock wiring can often be inadequate to provide the required amperage and voltage to meet the full flow rating.
We list all fuel pump flow rates at 13.5v and 70psi to give a more realistic figure. At these values, the dw65c will flow 220lph. This converts to 3666 cc/min, or 916cc per injector given 4 injectors. Therefore, for use on a turbocharged Subaru, we recommend this pump for 850cc injectors at the largest. For 1000cc or larger injectors, a larger pump such as the DW301 would be required.
This kit includes everything required (pump, fuel pump sock, o-rings) for installation on the following cars:
